Advising at UH Hilo
Academic advising at UH Hilo is not required, however to ensure academic progress, students are encouraged to meet with an advisor once every semester.
Students who do not declare a major when entering the university are designated "General" students. The Advising Center assists these students with designing a program of studies to meet the General Education requirements and to provide them with information about possible major fields of study.
Students accepted as declared majors are advised by faculty advisors who are specialists in their subjects, major requirements, related graduate programs, and employment opportunities in their disciplines.
