Located on the 2nd floor of the Student Services Building, the goal of the Counseling Center is to assist individuals in definining and achieving personal, academic, and career goals through a variety of counseling services. Individuals can be seen one-on-one, as a couple, or in a group context. Counselors also provide outreach and consultation for university faculty and staff. Services are available on both a walk-in and appointment basis, which include:

Personal / Social / Emotional

  • Relationship development and areas of behavioral/emotional change related to motivation, stress, eating, sex, and trauma.
  • Enhancement of self-esteem and personal effectiveness.
  • Strategies to eliminate self-defeating feelings / behaviors (e.g., anxiety, depression, eating disorders).
  • Enhancement of interpersonal relationships.
  • Coping with crisis.
  • Education and treatment/referral for alcohol or other drug-related issues.

Academic / Career

  • Learning and study strategies (e.g., exam preparation, time management).
  • Clarifying future educational and career plans.
  • Preparing for graduate study.
  • Outreach programs extend services to students referred by instructors and/or who are on academic probation.

Faculty / Staff Consultation

  • Counselors can provide consultation with faculty and staff regarding how make referrals to the Counseling Center, working with and supporting others exhibiting mental health concerns, etc.
