Web and Multimedia Services

The Web Services branch of the Office of Technology and Distance Learning supports departments, faculty and staff in the creation, use and maintenance of World Wide Web and Multimedia services. Web Services is responsible for maintaining the www.uhh.hawaii.edu website and many of its subsidiary sites located on multiple servers. Additionally Web Services is involved in the creation of the UH Hilo CD-ROM and other multimedia-enhanced classwork supplements.

For web-related activities, sites can be developed either by the individual or by the Web Services staff. Web space is available on either Linux- or Mac OS X-based servers, depending on what functionalities are required. A variety of web-enhancing features may also be added to a site upon request.

The UH Hilo Web and Multimedia Services recommends the following software and technologies:

• Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, Lynx (text only browser)
• Dreamweaver (educational pricing available through the UH Bookstore)
• Contribute (educational pricing available through the UH Bookstore and limited site licenses available)
• PHP (free)
• MySQL (free without MySQL AB support)
• FileZilla FTP client
