Demanding Field Conditions
Students need to be in excellent physical condition. Hikes are sometimes steep.
Many field sites have no trails.
Some days are rainy and cold.
Students who are uncomfortable with hiking over rough terrain may find they are unable to fully participate in the field exercises.
Many hikes are in remote locations where it is very hot. Heat shimmer from a lava flow in the foreground appears to blur the photo; a hiker provides scale.
The ground is uneven in places.
