Heather Jeppesen

I'm working in Honolulu for USGS Water Resources as a Hydrologic Technician. I'm married to Steve Sahetapy-Engel and our son Miles was born 3/20/2005.
At the USGS,I first worked as a field technician, monitoring streams, groundwater, and rainfall, which meant travelling a lot. I got to go to American Samoa, Kauai, the Big Island, and Maui. After Miles was born, I took an office job. Now I'm a database manager; not as fun, but it keeps me home. That gives me time for surfing, one-man and stand-up paddling, and of course chasing Miles around.
I remember UH-Hilo as being really fun (I think I'm blocking out all the late nights studying for Mineralogy). The small class size makes it feel like family (sorry, that sounds a bit cheesy.) UHH is excellent, great professors, great field trips, great town! For current students, I advise: Take a wide range of classes! You never know where you'll end up. If someone told me I would have been in the hydrology field, I would have laughed in their face!
